Richmond Traffic Violations Lawyer

Virginia Speeding Ticket Attorney

If you are like many people, you assume that paying a fine for a traffic violation is the cheapest and easiest way to deal with the problem. What many people do not consider is the long-term implications of the traffic violation. In Virginia, an accumulation of traffic tickets can drastically increase your insurance rates. An accumulation of points on your driving record can also put your driving privileges at risk.

Did you receive a ticket for speeding, reckless driving or other type of moving violation? Learn your options before paying the ticket. Call me at (804) 592-2058 to arrange your confidential consultation. You can also email me and I will be in touch with you promptly.

Understanding Reckless Driving

Reckless driving or negligent driving is a serious criminal offense. Reckless driving is a Class 1 Misdemeanor. Penalties upon conviction include up to one year in jail and/or up to a $2,500 fine and put your driving privileges at risk. Reckless driving traffic violations generally involve excessive speed--driving 80 mph or driving 20 mph faster than the posted speed limit.

Virginia's Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) assigns points values to traffic violations. Reckless driving is a six-point offense and will remain on your record for eleven years. An accumulation of more than 12 points within 12 months can result in drivers license suspension.

As an experienced attorney, I represent motorists throughout the Richmond area as well as out-of-state motorists, including truck drivers. For out-of-state drivers, it may be possible for you to remain in your home state while I attend any court appearances on your behalf.

In some jurisdictions where the officers or the prosecutors will not talk with the accused, I may be able to arrange for the ultimate dismissal of the warrant or summons before your court date. You may not have to drive back to Virginia for the five-minute court date.

In addition to reckless driving, The Law Office of Susan E. Allen handles the defense of traffic violations that include the following:
